Wet Areas Systems

Watertite WA 18

Our waterproofing and tiling system, for industrial kitchens & food processing areas.

Industrial kitchens and food processing areas in hospitals or hotels require a high degree of hygiene for a clean environment. These kind of floors are regularly subjected to strong cleaning chemicals to maintain the high level of hygiene to comply with the regulations as laid down by the regulatory authorities.
Watertite WA18 is a composite waterproofing membrane and tile finish system, specially designed for critical floor and wall surfaces, which are subjected to cleaning chemicals followed by high pressure water jet to clean the surface of all traces of chemicals.

Watertite WA 18, Antifungal, antibacterial, high chemical resistant, 20 years warranty, heavy duty kitchen, food processing areas, laboratories.

What you will need

Polythane 35, Polybit CL 252, Polybit CM 17, Polybit CE 47

The surface should be free of any cement laitance, oil, grease, curing compound and any other deleterious materials.

Light mechanical grinding / grit blasting / high pressure water jet may be used to clean the surface to be coated, based on the degree of contamination.

Nail heads and other protrusions that are likely to damage the coating must be removed or ground.

Structurally unsound and friable concrete must be removed and repaired. Honey combed or spalled concrete, surface irregularities, blow holes to be repaired with a suitable POLYCRETE concrete repair mortar.

Presence of organic growth should be physically removed and then treated chemically to restraint further growth. The surface should be thoroughly wetted with clean water and brought to a saturated surface dry condition (SSD) prior to the application of the coating.

Reinforce all corners with Ceresit CL 252 sealing strip. The sealing strip shall be embedded into the first coat whilst it is still wet and covered fully with the second coat.

  1. Mix the contents of the pail thoroughly with a paddle mixer fitted to a slow speed drill, till a uniform consistency is achieved.
  2. The coating is normally applied in two or more coats. Apply the first coat of Polythane 35 by a stiff brush on the prepared surface.
  3. The coating is to be applied @ 1.2L/m² to achieve a dry film thickness of 1mm.
  4. Similarly apply one coat on all the fillets and edges, extending up to 50mm on either side.
  5. After the application of the first coat, apply the second coat at right angles to the first coat and only after the first coat has dried completely.
  6. Clean all tools immediately with water after use. Hardened materials can be removed mechanically only.

The surface should be dry, free of any cement laitance, oil, grease, curing compound and any other deleterious materials. New concrete moisture content on the surface should be less than 5%.

  1. Pour Polybit CM 17 into the precisely measured amount of clean water (6.25L to 7.25L for 25kg bag) and mix with a drill and mixer until a homogenous mass without lumps is reached.
  2. Leave the material for 3 minutes and then mix it again.
  3. Apply the mortar with a suitable notched trowel.
  4. For indoor use, the mortar coverage (wetting) on the tile backside must be at least 65%.
  5. The floating-buttering method shall be used for larger tiles and outdoor applications. (i.e. additionally a thin layer of the mortar should be spread on the tile’s backside, wetting equal or more than 90%).
  6. Place the tiles only during the open time of the adhesive.
  7. Do not lay tiles butt jointed. Fresh excess mortar can be removed with water, hardened material can only be removed.
  8. Grouting can be done after approx. 12 hours using Polybit grouts.
  9. Walkability is reached after 24 hours.
  10. Expansion joints, joints at the corners of walls and floor and around sanitary equipment shall be filled with silicone sealant.

Polybit CE 47 adheres to all solid, load-bearing, clean and dry surfaces free of substances which can cause separation.

The surface and thin-bed mortar, dispersion adhesive or thick-bed mortar must have set sufficiently hard and dry. Scraped joints must first be wetted.

  1. Polybit CE 47 is supplied in two components in either a single container or two separate containers.
  2. Add hardener (component B) to the base solution (component A) and mix with an electric drill and mixer attachment at approx. 400-800 rpm until completely free of lumps.
  3. It is absolutely necessary to lift off the complete tin lid, using e.g. a screwdriver or trowel, and to scrape the hardener with a spreader or trowel completely out of the upper into the lower container (component A = resin) where the 2 components are mixed until a homogeneous mixture is obtained.
  4. When using only partial amounts, it is necessary to remove them by scraping from the two containers.
  5. Afterwards they can be closed again.
  6. Ensure a uniform, homogeneous color of the mixture.
  7. Apply the CE 47 mixture with an epoxy grouting board to the dry and clean ceramic coverings, filling the joints completely and without any cavities.
  8. Then remove any excess material by skimming it diagonally off the tile surface.
