Solvented bituminous protective coating for concrete & steel

Step by step

Application procedures may vary slightly depending upon site conditions. The general recommended guideline for the application of the bitumen coating system is as follows:


The surface shall be cleaned thoroughly of all contaminants like dust, traces of curing compound, oil, grease. Light mechanical grinding/grit blasting/high pressure water jet may be used to clean the surface of all the contaminants depending on the degree of contamination on the surface to be coated.

All surface imperfections and protrusions shall be removed and repaired. Structurally unsound and friable concrete must be removed and repaired with a suitable POLYCRETE* concrete repair mortar.

The bituminous paint can be applied is recommended to be applied by an airless spray. In smaller or confined areas the application can also be done with a brush or roller.

When applied with an airless spray it is recommended to dilute the coating with 5-10% (By Volume) POLYSOLVENT thinner.

The coverage is dependent on the surface texture and the porosity. As a damproofing membrane for solid concrete floors: One litre will cover approximately 2-3m2 per coat.

As a treatment to below ground external masonry prior to back filling, one litre will cover approximately 2-4m2 per coat. For black painting of weathered asbestos cement panels–plasterboard panels, stone and other permeable facing panels, one litre will cover approximately 4.5–6.5 m2 per coat.

As a protective coating on concrete pipes the coating can be applied at 5m2/liter @100microns.
