Bitustick XLS got developed and successfully introduced in the hot climate regions to combine the well proven Bitustick technology with a unique white, impervious, non-perforated and cross-laminated HDPE film. The major advantages of this new technology compared with usual black or dark surfaced membranes are obvious.
Commonly used torch on membranes or self adhesive membranes are equipped with a black surfaced film which fully absorbs the solar energy. This results in high surface temperatures which can cause bubbles or wrinkles in the applied membrane even when primed with the appropriate primer. Scientific and on-site tests have shown that the solar reflectivity of the white surfaced Bitustick XLS is more than 80 percent which is much higher than for any other coloured film.
Every waterproofing membrane should be covered with protection layers such as
Bituboard,
Bitustick R250, etc.
to avoid any puncture or unnecessary impact due to accidently hit with tools, usual site activities or the application of reinforcement, concrete or backfill. Even the long exposure to UV-light can harm the membrane. The critical moment for waterproofing membranes is therefore the time between the installation and protection which can vary between hours and days.
Bitustick XLS with its white cross-laminated reinforcement layers offer outstanding puncture and impact resistance to overcome this problem and to “survive” accidently happening damages. Additionally has Bitustick XLS a built-in sulphur resistant UV-stabilizer, compatible with the bitumen used, to avoid any risk of early deterioration due to UV-radiation.
And if a puncture should happen, even though Bitustick XLS has outstanding performances compared to standard self adhesive membranes, can it easily detected during the installation of reinforcement as ooze out of black bitumen is extreme obvious on a white membrane.
Manholes, terminations, corner connections, etc. are the most vulnerable places on any construction site because here waterproofing
membranes are cut, in order to follow the bending of the construction. A cross-laminated film provides a high tear propagation resistance, and doesn’t allow the membrane to tear any further when cut. With Bitustick XLS you decide the length of the cut!
